Fall Chemical Applications

People may always wonder how effective Fall fungicide applications are throughout a long and cold winter, and if they really do make a difference. Well, have a look for yourself. The following picture is of #16 green in April of 2011. As you can see the green and much of the surrounding collar, are very green. This is not a result of that area being tarped over winter, but of the fungicide application that was made in October of 2010. If you look closely in the picture you can see that the green coloured areas start as perfectly straight lines about 5-7ft. long. The black lines that have been drawn in show the starting points of where the sprayer was turned on and the grass was treated. All yellowing areas of rough were not treated with any chemicals. With Bentgrass being much more susceptible to winter diseases and injury it is very important that they are protected each fall.
